Can You Think in Terms of Commitment and Not Pounds?

Let's face it; nothing is more fun than seeing the progress of your hard work on the scale each week. When it comes to long term success and giving yourself the ability to look through plateau points, it’s important to learn to view your success from the perspective of how successful you are in sticking with the diet and not so much from a weight loss perspective.
For example, if you stick with your diet 100%, then you will be successful. And, if you don't, then your weight loss will suffer. Of course, no matter how well you stick with the diet, some weeks will result in a big weight loss and other weeks will result in a small weight loss. So, my advice is this....

Forget about viewing your success only from the perspective of counting the pounds.

For example, each week when you weigh-in, don’t concern yourself with how much you have lost. What matters most is that you stuck with the program 100%. And, if the scale doesn't move as much as you like, just know that your body is holding weight. And, nine times out of ten, by just sticking with the program for another week, you'll find that the following week is that much more successful.

So, while counting the number of pounds lost is a great way of keeping score, sometimes is can get depressing. In fact, since the weight never really comes off as fast as we would like, it’s often easier to forget about it for a little while. As you progress on your diet, try telling yourself the following:

"As long as I am doing everything in my power to be successful on the diet, I know the weight will come off."

For me, having faith in this one little statement is what made all the difference in the world. So, while it may seem like a little bit of a Zen approach to take....

Think in terms of commitment and not pounds.
